A commercial break? Well, this one is happening because quite a few of you guys have asked me to do something and I promised to spread the word when we are sorted. Here goes.

‘Into Africa’ has just been released as an Enhanced e-book on Apple i-Tunes and I’m delighted with it – nearly didn’t have a go as it happens but you and other friends kept digging me in the ribs over it. Thank you!

What’s an Enhanced e-book? It is an e-book as in a Kindle but on Apple, and full of colour photos (many of which haven’t been seen in public before), maps and video interview clips. You can find it here: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/into...16563691?mt=11

They are of course available as standard e-books on Amazon Kindle and you can find those here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/sam-manicom-...manicom&page=1

Of course, for those who prefer to have a travel tool, the paperback versions all double up as emergency loo paper and as excellent fire lighters! :augie

If you are at the BMF this weekend you’ll find me on the Traveldri-Plus stand by the main grandstand. Looks like its going to be a great event with the GS competition going on. :scootoff See you there I hope. I'm heading up there tomorrow morning to help Les and Jane set their stand up on Friday. It'll be a busy day no doubt!
Cheers,
Sam

Due to the high cost of servicing ( my dealers hourly labour rate is extortionate ) going back to servicing the bike myself, no problem with the mechanical side, however, does anyone know if you can reset the the service indicator on the dash ? Me thinks this is a dealer only job, probably with the mobitec unit when they read the s/w version and fault codes.
For anyone unfamiliar with the 1200 dash it displayed the word "service" and then the service date.

I recently acquired some GIVI crash bars from another biker. Unfortunatley the expanding cone fittings were missing along with the bolts and socket - so I called Givi explained I had a used set of bars and what the problem is. The chap I spoke to was very helpful and are sending me the missing parts today at no cost! I think that is outstanding given that I didn't buy from them.

Just adding this as it may be of interest to any users of older BMW Nav units:-

I can confirm that we do indeed still support the BMW Nav III, we offer seven years full support on the unit. The returns process slightly differs with BMW devices. In order to arrange a replacement you would need to contact your local BMW dealer for assistance, who would send the unit into us on your behalf.

If they deem the device to be within warranty they would need to replace it with their own stock. If they deem the device to be out of warranty they will arrange to book in the faulty unit for you and a fixed rate charge of £118.81 including VAT will be required. Our replacement devices are supplied with a 90 day warranty.

We replace devices like for like. In cases where the replacement is out of stock, we will replace with the closest possible upgrade.

Kind Regards,

Every now and again, maybe a couple of times a week, my 1200 runs lumpy at tickover. The whole bike shakes unless I open the throttle very slightly and increase the revs (and I don't mean the normal vibration from the boxer lump).

If it was a 4 cylinder engine you would think it was running on 3.

After a while it sorts itself out and runs fine again for a few days.

Fuel economy seems to have dropped off recently too, so may be related.

Faulty spark plug? HT lead? Fuel Injection issue?

Any ideas/suggestions?

With a break in the appalling weather of late forecast a quick trip to somewhere was needed.
We decided on Blois in the Loire valley and booked a hotel (Inter-Hotel Ikar) for a couple of nights. Reasonable quality but a lot of road-noise at night.
Travelled up on Wednesday in glorious sunshine and perfect riding temperatures.
Thursday was spent visiting a couple of chateau's and the inevitable 'coffee stops', of course.
Got back home today having ridden through an horrendous thunderstorm with torrential rain. (why is it that when you see the black clouds and rain ahead you never put the 'rain suit' on until its too late )

Anyway this was my first ride in the rain on my GS and the bike was amazing, never missing a beat and very sure-footed.

Tomorrow will be the 'cleaning' ;) and waterproofing the 'arse' of my trousers.

A couple of photos of Blois and one of the bikes.

So last weekend @ Easter, it was the Scottish Borders with Micky..............this weekend it was down to Devon to meet up with Trippy and Devon TRF for some trailriding

Devon is the place of my birth and it was really good to ride around all the places I knew whilst growing up, very cathartic

Devon TRF have annual trailriding weekend, riding all the lanes from Teign to Tamar in the South Hams and South Devon

Never done it before, so I decided to give it a bash and persuaded Trippy to take his big 600 on it - there were about 30 of us

Venue was Wheeldon Farm @ Halwell, the Husqvarna approved Offroad Centre which has a indoor MX track and some lovely rural holday cottages, to house us all........................the woodburner was a bonus on both nights

We arrived Friday night and most of the group hit the New Inn @ Moreleigh for beer and food

Saturday dawned bright and we were up early for breakfast on the farm and then bikes were readied for the off

Trippy.......................for those of you who haven't met this shy forum member

My bike...................clean for the only time that day

Some interesting old bikes here.....................shame it sheared its woodruff key later that day

We rode out through the South Hams, through some superb lanes and this pic is south of Totnes @ Waterman's Arms - Bow Bridge

Nice ford

Typical Devon lane - all legal and Devon CC have the best signposting in England - this is how it should be done

Trippy enjoying it

We took the Higher Ferry @ Dartmouth

Nice views from the Ferry

Another cracking lane - the pace was very brisk and enjoyable - oldest rider in our group was 78 and he never put a foot wrong and was one of the fastest riders of the whole weekend

Dave @ 78 years young (he's the short guy on the far left)

Next was a lovely lane by Berry Pomeroy Castle - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berry_Pomeroy_Castle

Berry castle was an old 'haunt' of mine as a teenager

Next lane near Broadhempston.....................called Tally Ho and was an absolute swine of wet angled slate bed on a 1:3 hill and very tricky to say the least

Straps were needed to haul the bikes up

Inevitably, one of the guys got a rear puncture and it was quickly fixed

After fixing it, we did a few lanes over to Rocombe and Maidencombe near Torquay, towards Shaldon where we stopped at a beach cafe for lunch

Lobster pots

Stormy skies over the Bar @ Teignmouth

Bikes on the beach

Nice beach cafe and lovely waitress

Fine views across the river to Teigmouth, where I went to school

Old Ferry is still plying its trade

Whilst having a late 3pm lunch, a storm of epic proportions erupted over the sea with thunder claps and forked lightening and blew inland - so we had another coffee

Slightly reluctantly we headed out into the rain and did a few more lanes back over towards Newton Abbot, via Stokeinteignhead

At Newton Abbot.... Trippy and myself decided to call it a great day and head back to Moreleigh to dry off, shower and get some beer in for the evening BBQ

Strangely the had been rain whatsover at Totnes and Moreleigh

We had a really good BBQ and social evening - well done Devon TRF

I decided to come back today because I've some work stuff to do, first thing Monday and my bike had sprung a leak - I knew a rocker cover bolt was missing (discovered after I bought it, so now it has decided to leak, it'll be drilled out and re-tapped, new bolt and new gaskets fitted)

We were planning to go away on the bikes during this bank holiday but plans have fallen through.

Does anyone know of any biker events over that weekend? I know 'Into the Valley' is on but, a little too big for what we wanted.

Any ideas? Don't mind a might of travelling from the North East but no more than 2-3hrs :D
